Jennifer: Thank you for coming on such short notice, Dustin.
Dustin: Not a problem, Jen. I've got a week of laying around anyways, I'm just glad I can be of service.
Jennifer: Yeah, I heard about that. How's your leg?
Dustin: It's fine. I really don't need a full week off, but they're pretty much forcing - Woah, what is that?
Jennifer: Oh, that little guy? He is what we're calling a "Ghost Lotus."
Dustin: What do you mean?
Jennifer: We don't actually know what it is. It came with a shipment of exotic plants for the Bayview Gardens, but all the plants were mixed up and terribly mislabeled. So far most of the plants have been correctly identified, but we're beginning to think this little guy may actually be of a previously unknown species.
Dustin: Why is it white like that?
Jennifer: The ghost lotus lacks chlorophyll. It's parasitic, and extracts nutrients from surrounding plants. See the little hair-like roots?
Dustin: Uh, it IS safe, right?
Jennifer: For us? Oh yes, perfectly safe. For the environment? Heavens, no. There's a long history of examples of how a non-native parasite can completely wreck an ecosystem.
Dustin: Sooo, don't let it out?
Jennifer: Precisely.
